About Children and Play Therapy:
The Association for Play Therapy describes play therapy “as a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the ‘language’ of the child-play.”
Children usually tend to act out their problems but may struggle with the words to articulate their experience unlike an adult. Play therapy is a means of communication that has been shown to be effective in decreasing a variety of issues with children (sometimes with adults and teens as well) such as :
- Dysruptive behaviors
- Aggression
- Attention deficits
- Emotional disorders
- Anxiety
- Relationship stress
- Negative home environments
- Grief and loss
- Trauma
